Job Description

The Software Engineering Manager will be responsible for managing 5-10 development engineers in all stages of the software development process. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of IP networking technology and protocols, as well as experience in Linux software development.

A passion for new technology and a demonstrated ability to learn new things is essential in this role. The position offers an exciting opportunity to work on latest trends in Enterprise and Data center technologies.

Responsibilities:

Ability to manage the team from both technical and people aspect fronts. Assist teams in the areas required and aptly represent the team for the upper management.

Ability to understand the projects in depth technically, estimate the work and deliver a good quality software to QA and customers.

Manage 8-15 software development engineers, meeting with them on regular 1-on-1s, tracking their progress against goals and schedule, and managing their career development. Keep good people happy.

Develop and manage the product schedule for each release. Track progress and take action when reality deviates from plan.

Look for ways to improve the software development process and develop plans to implement those. We want to get quality products out quickly. There is a fine balance between good quality and time to market, and a good candidate will know how to strike that balance.

Monitor and track metrics. Refine the metrics as necessary. Keep upper management informed.

Good debugging techniques to debug/guide the teams to debug on complex problems.

Flare to satisfy customers through apt communication and providing appropriate next steps on a consistent basis for critical customer issues.

Leader who stays engaged with the team and drives them towards company goals

Requirements:

10+ years technical experience in the area of computer networks with hands on experience in Routing and Switching products.

Well versed in the area of L2/L3/Multicast areas of Routing and Switching products in the area of forwarding.

Working knowledge of protocols in the area of Routing and switching.

Working experience on any of the merchant silicon a big plus.

Demonstrated project management skills

Should be at ease with C code
